Intuitive Eating

I’ve been trying to do better with intuitive eating. If ever there was a place to use the easier said than done line it would be here. Food is just too damn good and so many other factors go into wanting to eat. For example, stress and hormones have been running high in my world these past few days with worries about moving and money weighing on my poor hormonal self. And while I don’t consciously see this affecting the way I eat, I do some pretty unhealthy things under the influence of stress.

Like dive head first into a box of chocolate almond candies before dinner last night.

It didn’t help that I got home at 7 and was literally ready to chew my arm off.

But that’s a bad example. Typically over the last few months I’ve been doing pretty well especially in comparison to the past. I’d been in autopilot for many meals and ate when I always ate. A bowl of cereal for breakfast every single day. A tuna salad salad for lunch every single day. Not that there is anything wrong with these foods but I sometimes I ate them when I wasn’t hungry just because I didn’t care to think about it too much. And I would eat dessert just because I wanted to. And then I wouldn’t eat when I was hungry because I thought I wasn’t supposed to. I wouldn’t say I believe one set of “rules” over another so I’ve been trying to find what works for me.

Which is my long winded lead in to talking about breakfast.

Looks really appetizing, huh?

It actually really was. I don’t make smoothies a lot but they are ideal for mornings where I just can’t wrap my head around eating a giant bowl of oatmeal or cereal. As much as I love cereal, some mornings I just can’t muster the appetite for “real” food.

I went with mango because it’s the most interesting of frozen fruit stash. New additions to the smoothie were oatmeal and orange juice, both of which turned out perfectly!

* 3/4 cup frozen mango
* 1 frozen banana
* 1/2 cup soy milk
* 1 TBS protein powder
* 2 TBS oatmeal
* 1/3 cup orange juice

My blender kinda sucks despite how expensive it is so the this wasn’t as smooth as I thought it should be although the slight grittiness wasn’t the end of the world. What I really loved was how the orange juice sweetened it up just enough along with a little hint of citrus. Not an I-just-ate-a-whole-lemon kinda tang but a nice subtle kick to help me wake up lol.

Of course the problem with eating a light breakfast is that I was unbearably starving by 11 and so my avocado sandwich was eaten as a late morning snack and lunch will be a little lighter. Hopefully I make it out of the office at a reasonable time today so dinner can be eaten early just the way I like it.

Hope everyone’s having a great day!
