Go Green Lunch Box

May 8, 2012/ Job, Lunch/ 1 comments

I have talked about how I’m a big, big, big fan of bringing my lunch with me to work. So this weekend when cleaning out the garage for the disastrous yard sale, I was surprised when I ran across a box of lunch boxes. Not just any lunch boxes but eco-friendly lunch boxes!

Back when I worked for the magazine, I received a lot of free samples. Because I was the editor, most of them came to me by default. I didn’t have much need for many of them because they were baby products, children’s books and other things that just didn’t fit into my current life. The lunch box donation from Go Green Lunch Box wasn’t one I had planned to keep but after transporting them to a photo shoot, they just never got unpacked from my car and then ended up in my garage when I quit five weeks later. I knew they were nice so I didn’t throw them out but I wasn’t ready to deal with anything related to that job so they sat untouched until last weekend.

I’m giving this guy a try today.

It’s a cool idea. Inside the thermal-lined exterior is a Tupperware case that locks and unlocks for freshness.

Those compartments are a wee bit small for me though. This is a children’s lunch box after all. I’m just using the exterior today and it’s holding my own tupperware. I need something a little bigger for me meal.

Which includes…

A colorful salad. Mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and cucumbers over a bed of arugula. The kale and I are taking a break even though there is still plenty mocking me from the crisper.

Paired with an avocado sandwich. This is the star of my lunch. I just love how the avocados and hummus go together. Doesn’t hurt that I love all things bread too.

All packed up with some fruit.

The one thing I don’t like is how small this bag is. My normal salad container is probably twice the size of the one that fits in here. What can I say? I eat A LOT! Is it bad to bring two lunch boxes? Lol

For a long time I used old plastic grocery bags to pack my lunches but recently I’ve been using reusable grocery bags at the store so no more plastic ones have been available to me. I substitutes by also using the reusable ones for my lunches but they get really dirty transporting food one way and dirty dishes the other way. In order to preserve my grocery bags, I’m looking for an alternative such as a lunch box. Since this one is free, I’m gonna see how well it does me. If it works well, I might even pass along a few of the others I have sill laying around as a blog giveaway. Look for an update in a couple of days!
