Greeting the Dawn

It’s pretty darn early for me on a Saturday.

Anni, Will and I were up at 7am to get our first official yard sale off the ground.

We have a lot of junk! Since we are moving to a smaller place once the lease is up here, there’s no way to take it with us. Not that we’d want to. To me, a trip to Good Will was good enough for all this but Will is convinced that we can make a few bucks. I’m skeptical. The only yard sale I’ve ever been a part of was a spring cleaning induced one my dad headed up and I think that made like $5 maybe. So clearly I’m very inspired.

We were supposed to be up at 6 but a late evening up in LA for a not so successful birthday for my best friend derailed the 6am plan. No need for details but we ended up leaving LA before even making it to the restaurant, still not getting home until almost midnight.

Before that though we worked on a fun cake project for Will’s graduation.

His favorite video game is Legend of Zelda and he wants a image of Link made up of little cupcakes for his cake. He offered to map out which color goes where and how many we need and all I have to do it bake and frost the mini cupcakes.

Of course that turns out to be to the tune of close to 200 mini cupcakes. Not a big deal to make since it’s from a mix (Will’s choice), but it’s the frosting part that’s time consuming.

Yesterday was about finding the best amount to fill the tin and how to get the best shape. Turns out it was a good idea to test because the first batch was not satisfactory. They all bumped up in the middle, giving them a Mexican sombrero look.

Batch 2 went into the pan immediately after batch 1 came out and because the pan was still warm, they cooked more evenly.

Heat the pan first. Got it!

The fake frosting made me kind of sick but that’s good to know since I now have a tray full of mini cupcakes hanging out in my kitchen.

I do not need to be eating those!

As I’ve been typing this post, we’ve had two customers, both neighbors, and neither bought a thing.

Luckily I’m cutting out early for a long run! Elevensies! Fueling as we speak!

And some coffee but it’s not up to par today.

I’m looking forward to getting back out there after taking last weekend off. The rest definitely did my legs some good. Here’s to a good run (and hopefully a pick up in customers)!
