Please Don’t Mind the Construction

Not that you can actually see my construction but I’m not really in blogging mode today. Soooo…in the meantime I thought I’d share some fun things about myself. Or some not fun things about myself. I think bloggers try to emphasize the good, which is important but we’ve all got bad qualities too and sometimes those are the ones that people connect to the most.

Green and Coffee Beans posted this yesterday and I found myself nodding along to each one. Yep, Yep…omg we’re the same person. Am I the only one who does this when reading other people’s quizzes? Or is that one of my “bad” qualities? lol

1. When a cashier in the checkout line at the grocery store is being a grump for no reason, how do you typically react?
Umm…normally? I don’t like interacting with cashiers much. I have to be having a really good day to strike up a conversation. So, unfortunately, I’m probably the one being the grump most the time. I’m not really in a bad mood but I’m not 100% social 100% of the time. I’m selectively social.

2. Are you the type that likes going out with your girlfriends or staying in?
Well I don’t think I have any girlfriends so I think that about answers that one.

No, no. In fairness, I have plenty of friends, I just seem to get along better with guys. Not in a slutty way or anything weird. Will is the only boyfriend I’ve ever had. Most of my guy friends are gay or they’re friends of Will’s or it’s something else plutonic like they’re engaged, too. I get along with girls just fine but I find we’re definitely the high maintenance gender and since I’m selectively social, I guess I’ve chosen to avoid the drama more than not.

But to answer the question, I’m a homebody. But Will isn’t so we get a nice mix as we balance each other out.

3. Do you sob and get emotional watching romance movies?
Never did until about three years ago. I was solid as a rock up until I started taking birth control and then the flood gates opened. Taget commercial? Bawling. Will’s leaving to go home for two days? Bawling super uncontrollably. This morning, out of no where, it crosses my mind that I should email my grandmother because she won’t be around forever and all of a sudden I felt like I was going to need a few minutes to collect myself before going into work. I guess I’m making up for lost time with all these extra tears.

4. What stresses you out the most?
Little things. I don’t sweat the big stuff too much because those things tend to be large and in charge and will happen how they’re going to happen. But the little things have so much potential and I get very caught up in over analyzing that. I work in a deadline driven environment but, while my coworkers freak out about how things aren’t going to finish on time, I’m as cool as a cucumber because I know that it will get done. It always does. But I skipped a work out? OMG the world is going to end!

5. What do you think people think of you?
Mostly good. People who kind of know me think I’m quiet and very polite. People who know me think I’m nice and people who actually know me know that, yes, I’m a nice person and, yes, I don’t talk ALL the time but they also know that I’m a little too sarcastic and the quietness is just me holding in a snarky comment. I have a very good self-governor.

6. When you overindulge do you hit the gym to burn it all off, or just accept the indulgence and follow your same routine?
I used to try to really push it at the gym but I learned that overindulging actually made me feel worse and that just getting my normal exercise in was all I could manage. So now, while I do feel guilty, I just try to be a little extra careful about what and how much I eat along with getting in my scheduled exercise. One of my biggest lessons over the past year or so has been that stressing about food and fitness can be toxic if I’m not careful so I really try to be mindful of when I’m pushing myself and why.

7. Are you easily annoyed?
I’d like to say no but the truth is actually yes. But I make up for this by also being very forgiving so most people don’t ever actually know I was annoyed. Plus I have to maintain my niceness and all.

8. What do you think is your biggest personality flaw?
It used to be self-confidence but my previous job changed that (definitely need to do a post on that). Now I would say that it’s actually being too hard on myself. I used to be self-conscious because I held myself to a standard that I couldn’t reach, making me always feel inadequate. I’m working on that. This ties back into sweating the little things too much. I haven’t fully embraced that perfection isn’t always a good thing.

9. What is one thing you don’t think people see enough of when it comes to your personality?
That I’m fun. My seriousness comes out stronger than my light-hearted side a lot. I worked full time my senior year so I didn’t blow off class to drink like my peers. I get up on Saturday mornings and I’m genuinely excited to run for nine miles just to end up exactly where I started. I don’t want to go out for pizza. I’d rather make millet. Those things are fun to me but since most people I know aren’t exactly on the same page, I can come off a little too serious at first.

10. Can you feel relaxed in a busy crowd or messy room?
Busy crowd – I’d say so. Depends on what I’m doing but generally, despite being an introvert, I love being around people.

Messy room – absolutely not. I’m always putting things away, wiping something off or refolding the towels. Mess unhinges me.

Now it’s your turn! Tell me about yourself so I can freak out about how we’re so alike.
